California Madness: You Won't Believe What They Say They're Sick Of

California residents, who haven’t elected even a faux-Republican like Arnold Schwarzenegger to statewide office since 2006, say they’re sick of the high taxes they keep voting for.

The numbers are overwhelming — shockingly so — for a one-party “progressive” state like California.

The Los Angeles Times soft-sold its own poll with this headline: “Taxes too high? A lot of Californians think so.”

That headline could have been a contender for Michael Kinsley’s ’80s vintage Boring Headline Contest. The leading example he gave was “Worthwhile Canadian Initiative.”

Or at least … a lot of Californians think so.

Yawn.

But the UC Berkeley/Times poll found a whole lot more than “a lot” of Californians who think they’re paying more than their fair share.

A third would be “a lot” in a state of 37 million people.

Half would be “a whole lot” in a state that big.

But that’s not how many tax-cutters UC Berkeley/Times found.

According to the study, nearly two-thirds of Californians thought their taxes, state and federal, were too high.

Two-thirds. That’s a massive and overwhelming majority.

The breakdown doesn’t look much better for tax-and-spending-happy California Democrats:

Concern about taxes is much more common among conservatives than liberals. In the current survey, 83% of Republicans, compared with 54% of Democrats and 66% of nonpartisan voters, said they thought their families paid too much in taxes. The rest mostly said the levy was “about right.” Almost no one says they should be paying more.

You’d expect California Republicans — I assume, based on the poll, that they haven’t yet been driven to extinction — to think that taxes are too high.

But 54% of Democrats agree with those nasty, regressive conservatives?

What did they expect from the loons they elect?!

Funny story. We had a seasonal home in the Pocono Mountains. A New York City family moved a few hundred yards down the road. I noticed every weekend we would go up and spend some time my firewood stores were lower. We followed prints in the snow and the New York neighbors were taking our firewood for their use. When asked? They denied it. Ok......

So I bored out the ends of a few choice pieces and inserted a shotgun shell with the shot dumped out. I then put some wood putty on the hole and rubbed it in some dirt.

The next week we flew up and stayed they had a cleaning service contractor there for three days. It seems their wood stove blew up. Go figure?

That summer they totalled three cars from hitting deer. I suggested they alter their driving habits to be more cautious during peak deer times. Nope.

That fall they contacted the county to have a traffic light installed on a county road because "visitors had a hard time finding them with no landmark to go by".

The next spring the husband and wife ran for the homeowners association because they wanted better paved roads.(so they could drive faster to hit more deer I suppose?)

They found out we fly in on most visits. The husband wanted to know if we wouldn't mind picking up his kids on his visitation weekends because he didn't like to have to drive half way to NYC to meet up with their mother? He was annoyed when I told him we don't go anywhere near that direction. He really expected me to say yes!

About a year later his new wife said she hated living out in the woods. They split up and sold the house.

Some of those who say taxes are too high are probably single issue voters, like the LGBTQXYZ’s. They prioritize their single issue over everything else, e.g. taxes, crime, economy, cost of living, freedom.

And even so, they will still vote for the Democrat, because they are herd animals and follow the pack.

I think they are mostly one issue voters and they dont want to be part of the racist republicans. I know many libs in the state that vote for all the gay and lesbo stuff and ignore everything else. They all complain when they have to pay taxes but wont vote Republican because they’re bad people.

In the 80s, Nevada was the wild west, now its freakin woke

In the 80s, California was Reagan Country - I still remember the flags and bumper stickers and the kind of support Reagan had here. That was right around the time the liberals from the Northeast were pouring in, attracted by Silicon Valley's growth.

The only thing worse than “Elections have consequences” is “Elections no longer matter.”

Kalifornistan is where the 2020 steal was tested and perfected over many years. They built their pinko supermajority and it went national.
It now doesn’t really matter what the people think. The pinkos will retain control until the people either explode with rage or anyone with sense gives up or goes away.

It doesn’t matter what Californians think about anything. Nor does it matter what the rest of us think. The politicians are going to do whatever they want and they KNOW that no one will do anything about it.

Believe it or not there are good people in California who vote against the taxes every chance we get.

It’s a beautiful state and we have family and jobs here so it’s hard to move, but the liberals here sure make it hard for us to stay!

The poll had to include people who don’t pay taxes except maybe on beer and smokes.
