Movies about Jesus are not really made to convert the unbelievers. They are really made for believers who may or may not have an emotionally moving experience watching a movie about Christ (or by listening to a sacred oratorio, or looking at paintings by the old masters, etc). It sounds like you went into the movie totally cold, and found it incomprehensible. That is understandable. If I saw a movie about Mohammed* or Buddha or some Hindu deity it probably would not have much of an effect on me either, while the Hindus and Buddhists in the audience may be emotionally moved.

*Actually there will never be a movie about Mohammed because Islam does not allow Mohammed to be depicted in pictures.

Au contraire. There was a movie about Mo and Islam. It was titled The Message and starred Anthony Quinn. It never showed the face of Mo or anything but Muslims of course are the toughest critics and decided to take hostages in response.
