In the early 1970s, my very best friend had to endure a serious surgical procedure. Those Doctors completely tore up his insides. He had to have some sort of a mesh placed inside of his torso. His diaphragm was a in great jeopardy. I cannot explain his need exactly. I do know that he loved to play football and that he was seriously injured. He would likely have died because of his passion for a stupid game.

Later I played myself, on his team, but I never got injured. I was simply one of the biggest guys in the area and I was very tough. Nobody could hurt me. I had a lot of advantages. I was bigger, stronger, quick for my size, and I was smarter than most. I never lost my temper. To me it was like Math. Oh, and I was seriously good looking, but I digress.

I am still good looking, but I am not as sinewy and pliable, or as fast as I once was. Ha, I have so many fun stories to share. My best friend passed last year. It was sudden, unexpected and unsettling for those of us who remain behind, but it is above all, thought provoking.

What will I do without my best friend? I dunno, but I do have grandchildren. I can still love living people. I have family, and it is not all bad.

During those days, in the early 1970s, my friend, post surgery, met a new friend. A hospital worker. He witnessed to him about Bible things. My friend ‘Rick’ was greatly impressed. He insisted that I meet this new guy.

I resisted, but this was my best friend, barely still on this side of the grass. It was a peculiar time for me. I finally opened up. I agreed to meet this guy. I agreed to my first ‘Bible Study.’

In those days, I was angry regarding acts of terrorism. The Ma’allot killings, those kindergarten children, the Munich Olympics, the everything Terror.

I began to learn of Eschatological things. I read Daniel, Ezekiel, and a whole lot more. Within a year I read the entire Bible. I was not even 21 years old. I was still a child.

I fasted, I prayed. I read. I read more and a lot faster than most could.

I wondered about how so many could lie to me about so much for so long.

More later.
