Hungary's authoritarian leader Viktor Orban wins fourth term in general election

Nationalist Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban claimed a "great victory" in Sunday's general election, as partial results gave his Fidesz party the lead.

Addressing a jubilant crowd chanting his name, Orban said: "We have won a great victory -- a victory so great you can perhaps see it from the moon and certainly from Brussels".

Orban's administration has presided over repeated confrontations with the European Union, including over the neutering of the press and judiciary, and measures targeting the LGBTQ community -- also the subject of a vote on Sunday.

The 58-year-old, already the longest-serving head of government in the EU, was challenged by six united opposition parties seeking to roll back the "illiberal" revolution Orban's Fidesz party has pursued during 12 consecutive years in office.

But with more than three-quarters of votes counted, Fidesz was on 54 percent compared to 33 percent for the opposition coalition, according to results from the national election office -- an unassailable lead.

CBC here in Canada did their usual left-wing hit piece on this. As usual they spent about a quarter of the article going on about the LGBTQ whatever. Ironically they called him an authoritarian with their lord and benefactor Justin Trudeau reigning over us in coalition with our socialist nutcases in the NDP.

The MSM reported this election was supposed to be close. They're saying the same thing about PiS in Poland.

Many here focus on Orban's pro-Christian cultural agenda or the Ukraine war, but what was most important was the boost in real wages and family income his policies have produced.

In Poland the PiS government has improved life in more rural areas by redirecting a lot of government spending into those areas. With the Ukraine war, national security is now top of the list and the opposition is closely linked with EU milquetoasts and the Germans, which won't do them any favors at the polls.

After making some cosmetic changes to the laws governing judicial discipline, the EU will probably cave in to Polish demands to free-up COVID stimulus funding to help Ukrainian refugees, but much of it will be redirected to Poland's plan to double the size of its army.

Christendom has much to be thankful to Poland. In 1683 a Christian army led by John II Sobieski, King of Poland, destroyed the Muslim host at the Battle of Vienna. He led what was the largest cavalry charge in history, some 20,000 horsemen, 5,000 of which were the Polish Winged hussars. For 2 centuries they were the most feared heavy cavalry In Europe.

Good news!

But it would be better if Hungary had a vowel as the first letter so it would sound better than MHGA.

If they changed it to ‘Attilaland’ it would be MAGA baby. :-)

“Hitler’s second coming” or such brain-dead utter baloney, I presume.

As a conservative German columnist once wrote: “anyone who caompares, in this day and age, his political opponents to the Nazis, is morally deficient, a trivializer from the historical POW, and a zero intellectually.”

That description fits our neo-bolshevist friends to a tee, doesn’t it?
