Oscars co-host Wanda Sykes slammed the Academy, calling their actions 'gross' for allowing Will Smith to remain in the theater Sunday night after he slapped Chris Rock, a display she said made her feel 'physically ill.'

'It was sickening,' Sykes said in a televised interview on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show. 'I felt physically ill and I'm still a little traumatized by it.'

Smith, 53, stunned the audience at Dolby Theatre and millions of television viewers at Sunday night's Oscars when he marched onto the stage and slapped Rock, 57, after the comedian made a bald joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has spoken publicly about losing her hair due to alopecia.

When Smith returned to his seat, the 'King Richard' star yelled at Rock, 'Keep my wife's name out your (expletive) mouth.'

Less than an hour later, Smith won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Richard Williams - father of tennis legends Serena and Venus.

I can’t believe that this little bit of (probably) staged Kabuki Theater is still in the news. People are carrying on as if Will and Chris both set off bomb belts at the event, or pulled out MAC 10s and blasted the attendees with submachinegun fire.

And Wanda Sykes is beyond ludicrous “Still Traumatized” by a little girly slap, not even a manly punch, which she happened to see from some distance; It didn’t happen to her, and by now, most people would have ‘shaken it off’ by now if it was them that got a girly slap.

He was asked to leave?

By whom?

I hope they take back his Oscar.

Were any of them traumatized when Alec Baldwin killed his cinematographer?

Well, at a minimum he should not be invited to another Oscars.

His acceptance speech was the weirdest I have heard on any Oscars. It was mostly incomprehensible.

Did you see the horrified looks on the Williams sisters??

Bet you if Will slapped a white guy, all these people would be supporting Will.

Whatever they do to Will Smith, see what they DON’T do to Alec Baldwin.

... people here are still convinced it's fake.

True! I guess, in their minds, there’s NO POSSIBLE WAY an “esteemed Hollywood elite actor” could ever be sooooo insecure as to have an irresponsible, unhinged, emotional, overboard reaction and outburst. Ha!

To be fair, I was confused about it at first. However, as a former TV Producer who has done live Tech Director (multi camera directing & switching) work (ironically for the DNC), I thought that there's no way that a seasoned TD would miss switching to cameras that would pick up the Smith's "staged" reaction to his wife's reaction and then leaving his chair. Also, purposefully planning to break FCC rules is another move that's too risky for the sanctimonious Academy that jealously guards their brand.

Like I said, if this wasn’t a STAGED ACT... can you imagine if someone else had done this? No matter how justified they may have been or felt they were, do you think security would not remove you, or me or anyone else if we did something like this, immediately???

Let alone let you sit there all night and then take the stage too?

Not a chance in hell.

If this wasn’t staged, Smith’s career should have ended that night, but of course it won’t... and frankly I am not convince this wasn’t part of their act.

BS.... Security and/or police would have removed the person in any other situation...

Cut to a commercial, remove him, and go on...

BS excuse.

Yes, you see it on this thread. People just can’t comprehend that this was not staged by the Producers.

Nor was it staged by Rock.

It is possible that Smith planned to do something unconventional and used this moment as his opportunity but the idea that producers and Rock were in on this are preposterous.

the fallout is still happening. Lawsuits are no doubt being talked about. If I was Rock I would find some way to say that his lawyers told him he can’t talk about it and then make lawyer jokes or something in order not to say anything direct about it to preserve a lawsuit

Heck, Sykes and Schumer may also be demanding “after care” like Rock has been offered

The scary part about this is that if an actor was off his meds or having a meltdown there is no telling what he might do after he refused to leave. It was an explosive situation.

Yeah and then the wife who apparently parades around town with guys divorces him. Maybe the divorce is looming and he is trying to hold his marriage or bank account together.

Next Bidet will get together with them an have an Obama "teachable moment". They'll all hug in the end and the media will get orgasmic over it all.

The End

(with Lennon's "give peace a chance" outro and pigeons being let loose).

btw, lawyers had to be thinking what happens if Will Smith doesn’t win the award and does something even worse when he completes his meltdown.

Great points!

As an aside, I now hear rumors that the Academy President was instantly furious. Sounds like he was chilled by Smith or his reps. I’ll have to see what my Academy writer buddy, Shelly Goldstein, knows at this point - just for kicks and giggles.

UPDATE : OK, I checked in with my Academy comedy writer contact and she replied (in her typical comedic form) “I’m sorry, Billy, I can’t comment on that right now. I’m too busy fielding agents to pitch my new buddy comedy film starring Chris Rock & Will Smith!”)

Now we will have an entire generation of Will Smith Jrs who think it is ok to slap someone who insults you instead of taking the high road.

Or shoot them. Smith is reinforcing the violence in “street” culture.

But it’s Will Smith ‘showing us the love for his people don’t you know ...and would soon take first place at the Oscars.

Hollywood like politicians never pay for their behavior.

Just another day in the hood with those mongrels. Who cares? And why is it such a subject of interest on FR?
