This may not meet approval here, and frankly I don’t really care for either of Will Smith or Chris Rock, but if someone cracked a joke about my Mom when she had a serious illness (cancer), I’d have done a lot more than b##### slap the jerk. He’d have ended up in a hospital. So I do not hold this against Will Smith.
He let’s other men screw his wife, but not insult her?
Twisted set of values there.
Rock acted like a punk who wouldn’t DARE say the same thing to Smith and his wife off stage. He thought he had special “comics” immunity on stage there. He was wrong.

I like both Chris Rock and Will Smith. Each is two standard deviations above the industry average talent. CR made a horrible judgment. Smith should not have smacked him but it was a purely human reaction and it was a slap not a punch.
The entire Oscars schtick involves insulting and humiliating individual members of the audience one after another. It’s wretched. If there is any good that comes out of this going forward, it just may be to tone down some of these non-funny, non-clever personal attacks on audience members.
I see no possibility that this was staged.
“So I do not hold this against Will Smith.”
Neither do I. I look at this like Chris Rock’s “Andy Kaufman” moment. Sometimes these guys go a little too far.
He had a long standing feud with Rock and this was probably icing on the cake. A lot of emotion there, You could see Rock trying to collect himself afterwards. I think Will hit a cord for those tired of seeing jokes made on someone else’s misery. You can tell this hit a nerve with the cowardly liberals who are use to doing this to others and expecting them to take it. Now, if someone could just smack Howard Stern!
LMAO
Jada does not have a serious illness.
My friend had alopecia in high school- stress related.
