I saw that they put the geomagnetic storm warning out in the power industry last night. Shouldn’t have much effect down here in TN, but it can have some effect at northern latitudes, closer to magnetic north.
I will try to post to you whenever sunspots get active and if you think its going to be a problem let us know. I have seen some Army manuals that indicated that it only takes a thin skin of metal on a building to protect contents of a building from another Carrington or EMP event. (Provided you have some sort of surge protection from external power sources. ) I know that there is surge protection for power substations but I am not certain how widely it is used!
(I spoke to the grandson of Oliver Heaviside in 1990 IIRC and he was surprised that I knew any thing about Kennelly–Heaviside layer. Heaviside was an interesting man!)
