“Maripol is the Azov HQ. They are cut off and holding civilians hostage.”

Do you have a source for that, that is not Russian or pro-Russian propaganda?

“Guess where the poison is?”

Everybody in Ukraine has known about Azov stronghold over the people in Maripol long before the war. It’s common knowledge.

“In the absence of full mobilization by the Russians, the troop balances will swing in favor of the Ukrainians.”

I think that is accurate.

Often, when a country is fighting to defend its very existence against an invasion, ordinary people step up. They may not be front line troops, or well-drilled, but they can contribute to the defense.

Exactly. Ukraine is fighting for its very existence. They are fighting an enemy they remember as starving off 1/6th of the population of Ukraine only 90 years ago.

There is an effective source of about half the population of 40 million willing and able to fight.

The Russians were in that position in WWII when the NAZIs invaded. They were fighting for their existence. Now, the Russians are the invaders.

There are lots of Ukrainians posting on twitter. Many are happy to have Russians in charge, esp eastern side.
But Kherson hates them SO much.

Is that a port the Russians need or something?

It is a port they desperately want. Need is rather subjective.

“Ukrainian soldiers commute home at night and sleep in their own beds, get some sugar from their female companions, etc.”

Oh ok so they commute to and from work. They have a day and night shift? You do realize how idiotic that sounds?

“Everybody in Ukraine has known about Azov stronghold over the people in Maripol long before the war. It’s common knowledge.”

I’d like to see a credible source for the claim that Azov is holding civilians hostage, and not letting them leave. Maybe they are. But there have been so many claims of “Nazi” and “Neo-Nazi” forces rampaging throughout Ukraine that there must be some objective evidence to support it. Hell, our Democrats here regularly label anyone not on the Dem plantation as Nazis. There probably are some Nazis in the Ukrainian military, just as there are some Nazis fighting for Russia (the Sparta Brigade); but this histrionic claim of widespread Nazi forces is...suspect. Convenient scapegoat, though.

If Ukies surrender, that’s the end of their country.

East and south Ukraine would join Crimea as part of Russia. Western Ukraine would be the new Ukraine.

Ukraine has mobilized their reservists, so by now they should have plenty of men to assign as individual replacements. Not well trained probably, but more so than most the Russians can come up with.

If the propaganda is anywhere close to being true (and it sounds like it is) I’m wondering if just invading Russia at this point may be the right move (or the plan).

OTOH - things are going to be a lot scarier world wide if Russia loses this. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Ukraine needs to blow the E97 bridge in Kherson to cut off Russian resupply from Crimea.

Won’t Russian engineers just use their bridging equipment to cross?

They could, but its a pretty broad stretch of water and may take a while. Assuming that the Russians have their engineering assets nearby.

You are certainl capable of finding your own sources as the rest of us - some of us spend ample time and effort to search and find what’s out there - you can too. You can start just by looking up Azov in Ukraine .

I think close to 200K military aged males returned to Ukraine. The problem is training and equipment.

Vlad's terms are to turn Ukraine into a rump protectorate of Russia with a puppet government.

No Ukrainian in their right mind would accept that.

Concrete is heavy and non-portable, but it’s not easy to destroy. Whereas bridging equipment is presumably far more vulnerable to attack.
