I oppose term-limits.
If someone is doing an effective job, why limit them?
There's a reason why Young served 50 years in Congress. His constituents liked him, obviously.
All term limits is going to do is make them an effective lame-duck and they can't get anything done.
If you don't like someone vote them out.

25th term ??????
So he was around when everything turned to sh*t?
And they kept him in office???

Upon further research I find that a special election has to be held no sooner than 60 days and no later than 90 days. Either way, the insidious ranked voting will not be in effect yet.

I would rather they not get anything done...

What are your thoughts on this man and his service AlaskaErik? His votes over the past few years had me concerned to the point that I was actually considering whether or not to vote for him this November.

This could provide an opening for Sarah Palin. Love to see the heads explode.

Nobody should be sucking on the government teat that long. Don’t care whose side he was on.
RIP.

I did a search for Young, and see that early-on, he downplayed the virus, and then eventually tested positive. I'm 74, and not vaccinated, nor will I ever be. The article says he voted for HR 550, a Bill that would establish a national vaccine tracking database. I did verify that he voted for it. The article also says he had a vaccine mandate for his office, but it doesn't specify which office, so I'm going to assume it was for all his office locations. Nick Begich, who apparently filed to run as a Republican, and planned to primary Young, said Young fired someone in his office (no name given), who didn't want to get the vaccine. The article is from January. I don't know either guy, and have no idea if the claims of Begich are factual or not, but offer this link for anyone who is interested:
Nick Begich, in fundraising letter, says Congressman Don Young has vaccine mandate in place for his office, and fired a worker for being unvaccinated

Will ranked choice voting flip this seat?
In order for Rank Choice to apply, no candidate would have received 50% of the vote. Not sure if the two non major party candidates have to wherewithal to keep the Republican under 50%.
Democratic
Anchorage Municipality Assembly Member Christopher “Chris” Constant, • FEC H2AK00200
Republican
Nicholas Joseph “Nick” Begich, III, • Grandson of late Member of Congress Nick Begich, • FEC H2AK01083; 31 Dec 21; Tot $303,927; Dsb $76,591
Congressman Nick Begich was a democrat serving in his first term, when “on October 16, 1972, he and House Majority Leader Hale Boggs, of Louisiana,” plane disappeared in Alaska. He was reelected and then declared dead in late December 1972.
He probably is the leader in the race to succeed Don Young.
Shannon Scott Evans, • FEC H2AK01067
Robert “Bob” Lyons
Julio Perez, • FEC H2AK00192
Randy Purham, • FEC H2AK01059; 31 Dec 21; Tot $1,485; Dsb $4,659
Member of Congress Donald E. “Don” Young, • FEC H6AK00045; 31 Dec 21; Tot $570,568; Dsb $188,943
Libertarian
Chris Bye
I could find very little on Chris Bye. Although he does not have a FEC #, he has filed with the commision.
Non Affiliated
Gregg Bowyer Brelsford, • FEC H2AK01075; 31 Dec 21; Tot $26,027; Dsb $19,718

I actually thought Don Young had already announced he would not seek reelection. I must be thinking of another geriatric member.
To: AlaskaErik
Oh no!. My congressman too. I wonder who will replace him?
