I believe Russia invested in armaments/air superiority. Just checked to see if I'm mistaken and it still looks right to me. America's Navy is in between America's Air Force at #1 and Russia's Air Force at #3.

Unlike the US, the Russian military still subscribe to the concept of “Total War”. While we build weapons designed to limit collateral damage, our allies do so because of our lead. Given the opportunity our European allies would also subscribe to a “Total War” policy.
Most of the world has been at war for so long they are like the mafia Don in Godfather II. They not only kill their enemies but all of their offspring too. This prevents having to fight them again later. Putin is executing this doctrine in Ukraine as well.
To win a war one must destroy the enemy’s will to fight by destroying their military, destroying their supply system (so they are unable to fight), or by destroying their reason to fight (killing their families). Putin is pursuing all three.
This is why the Trump Doctrine was so calming on the world. Trump has no qualms going directly to the source as did Reagan. Reagan bombed Qaddafi and world terrorism ceased for a time. Trump took out Sulemani and Iran became quiet.
The Biden doctrine of doing nothing and setting up a deal to skim 10% for the big guy is our answer to Iranian missiles hitting our embassy in Iraq. Let no one forget that Embassy’s are Sovereign soil of every nation. There is no difference in attacking an Embassy or attacking the US capitol in DC, yet the response to this “Act of War” is ...Crickets.......
