“The author of this piece is an idiot and probably a commie.”
Totally agree. The typical busy body wanting to impose his “superior morals” on others.
“Considering that Ford is sold out until next year, and has stopped taking orders...”
That goes for a lot of vehicles....IIRC there’s a general shortage of new AND used right now.
Also I’ve never been too keen on buying a vehicle that hasn’t been manufactured for at least a few years. Takes a while to work all the bugs out in my experience.
Plenty of friends have trucks. It seems to be a lot like having an old geezer who always needs attention — hip replacement this month, cataract surgery the next, a stent, a colostomy, hearing aid, new dentures, kidney stone removal...always something, always big.
I’m tempted to buy a truck (new), but I’d still need these friends to load and unload, and they need the money I pay.
Something always needs moving and I’m not build to put a fridge on a truck. Got a trailer, and even that needs a y-chromie to hitch up.
Funny, though, every time I ask someone what I should buy, they recommend something old. Something that’s had more work than a Kardashian. You might drop a bumper now and then, but that old heap is immortal.
“I had a Maverick back in the 70s...”
And I had a 70’s Maverick in the 80’s. Nothing beat a hot Texas summer driving to the job at DFW Airport with no A/C.
I just turned over my company owned F150 for a new one.
The driver gets first dibs to buy the vehicle at a great price.
I’m waiting for the title to arrive so I can flip it and make a few thousand dollars.
A large part of me wants to keep it.
I used to be a dedicated loyal ford truck owner but after the 5.4 triton I can’t bring myself to even look at a Ford truck again.
Scotty Kilmer checked one out in January and he was impressed but reserving judgement for its long term reliability.

Sarah-n-Tuned tried it offroad:

2006 F-150, 116,000 miles. Bought used with 42,000 miles. All manual though. Should have gotten one with power windows, better radio, power door locks, cruise control.
Since I’m not carrying much construction material regularly any more, the smaller pickup is attractive now.
New trucks, all brands, are OUTRAGEOUS!
We went looking for a new one in January and February and teh prices were out of this world. They even wanted more THAN STICKER PRICE!
Our 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 only has 96K miles but even with all the little things we have bought, alternator, radiator, water pump, power steering hoses, battery and tires, it’s still runs like a champ. The paint is faded and the clearcoat is peeling like a Spring Breaker after Easter, but it’s solid.........................
I have a 2012 F150 Lariat, crew cab, 4x4, ecoboost, leather.
I bet I will drive it over 350k miles.
It’s just too useful.
That looks like the Maverick I had....especially with the hood up.
Charger, Impala, Challenger, Malibu, Ram, Dart.
That’s off the top of my head, I am certain there are a LOT more recycled auto names.
So do old fit people, tall fit people, the handicapped...
I used to take care of a number of elderly relatives who needed transportation.
A compact doesn’t cut it for a variety of reasons. Neither does a pickup.
If Toyota still made the xB, Nissan made the Cube, I’d still be driving one or both. I loved those cars.
My first car was a 1970 Ford Maverick.
SUV’s and trucks sales were 78% of all sales in 2019, this includes imports. The best selling cars sold about 300k, F150s were almost 900k. They are also more profitable.
Also, for small pickups, Yota and Nissan have good quality offerings. I don’t see a need for yet another small pickup
This one looks good...
I put hoop step rails on my Frontier and they are great for getting in if you have a problem with mobility. I use mine to get in sometimes. My wife is a short woman and uses them getting in and out and loves them. As for getting out I just turn around and stand up. We don’t do off roading in the truck so clearance isn’t an issue with us.
“starts at $20,000 and returns 40 miles per gallon”
Idint wanna sound like a jerk however, I’m not from Missouri but you’d have to show me that 40 mpg.
What’s it got..a 2 cylinder with no A/C and absolutely NO options added?
backorder. no wonder it’s backordered.
#5 I am 190lbs and 5’11” and find it hard to get in and out of my 2016 4 door Honda Accord Sport.
