What’s the difference between a meteoroid and an asteroid?Size. Asteroids (rock) and comets (dust/gas) are the primary sources of meteoroids. A meteoroid is only called that while in space. When it hits our atmosphere, it becomes a meteor, and if it makes it to the ground instead of vaporizing in the atmosphere, is becomes a meteorite.

Meteoroids are one meter or less in diameter. Asteroids are larger. A meteoroid becomes a meteorite when it impacts the earth.
...so Wikipedia tells me.
