Instead of being free to select the time of day you prefer to use, how do you deal with the government oppression of established time zones across the U.S.?
Prior to 1883, people had the freedom of over 144 local times in North America, but then the “high-tech” transportation companies (the railroads) established four time zones in the continental U.S. to reduce train collisions caused by confusion over the time at which a track would be clear.
Then in 1918, the Interstate Commerce Commission (which regulated railroads) was given control of the five time zones (now including Alaska). Since 1966 the Department of Transportation supervises the boundaries of the time zones as well as daylight saving time.
Counties and cities (such as those near time zone boundaries) can apply to the DOT for a change in which time zone they are in. Only states can apply to opt out of DST completely.
That’s not government oppression. It is the changing of the time back-and-forth that is the problem. You can like DST if you want. Nobody is stopping you.
