That’s not government oppression. It is the changing of the time back-and-forth that is the problem. You can like DST if you want. Nobody is stopping you.
During the half of the year the continental United States has longer daylight than night, Daylight Saving Time moves one daylight hour from the morning to the evening so that people can spend a longer continuous non-working time outdoors, especially when it is also warmer (With the advent of air conditioning, the older claim of saving energy is no longer applicable).
But this benefit of more daylight recreational time after normal work hours does mean a one-hour adjustment around springtime (and another one in the fall that no one seems to complain about). For some, their biological clock has a more difficult effort adjusting to this change. For others, there is little to no problem. Also, for people with evening or night jobs, there is less benefit.
If there are enough people having a time change difficulty within a state, they can politically work to have their elected state representatives request to opt out of DST.
