Failures in roads like that are due to lack of maintenance. Yes, we can build roads can last much longer, but there are more important uses for your tax dollars. Like gender studies.

Not the engineers, friend. The contractors and sub-contractors who actually build the road.
A straight road was an accomplishment, they just druid on the landscape and started construction.
