History forgotten: Academics claim Hitler didn’t kill ethnic Germans, use chemical weapons

Over the last couple of days, basic World War II history seemed to have eluded a pair of academics who were offering commentary on Ukraine and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

While comparing Putin to Nazi Germany’s Adolf Hitler on MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show,” Stanford University political science professor Michael McFaul — “a leading expert on Russia, American foreign policy, and democratic development around the world” according to his website — claimed that even as evil as the der Führer was, at least he didn’t murder his own people.

"Academics" once used to mean something.

An idea so stupid that only an intellectual would believe it.

The Downfall. Not a spoof the actual original. Very powerful stuff.

Sorry Mr. McFaul, but many, many German Jews were ethnic Germans via generations of intermarriage. That’s why the Nazi laws were cutting it as fine as 1 grand-parent in their definition as to “who was a Jew”. As to chemical weapons, they used Zyclon-B... and insecticide... to kill prisoners in their death camps.

Who hires these idiots?

Far be it from me to defend history’s villains and monsters. If they did even a fraction of what they were accused of, they should burn in Hell.

But having witnessed the shameless and horrendous lies and deceptions fed to the masses during my lifetime, and how dutifully and eagerly they are lapped up by a gullible public…

I must say - I don’t believe that “history” is any less prone to fakeness than is “news”.

Fifty years from now, if “history” tells our grandchildren who were the heroes of our times, and who were the villains - which version of the truth will they tell?

Again, I’m not defending evil people of the past - they should burn in Hell. I’m just saying we have a serious information problem - “fake news” is not a modern phenomenon.

Free speech is free speech. We need to hear and consider dissenting voices regarding what we call “history” - even if we find them offensive. We need to hear them.

The comparison that matters is comparing Biden to Neville Chamberlain. Both have tried appeasement with a deranged tyrant. The first with disastrous results, although his approach was popular at the time. It is obvious that Biden is headed in the same direction. When will politicians ever learn?

I always recall the old joke about the world's best public relations coup: Austria convincing the rest of the world that Hitler was German and Mozart was Austrian.

If one was arguing where these individuals were born, this would be a funny line.

But Hitler most certainly renounced his Austrian citizenship and became a German national. In the eyes of the law, he was as German as any native German in the country.

Zackly.

His first target was the mentally-ill Germans.

True, but the issue here is not what passport Hitler held but what he would have regarded as foreign. The question of German identity is quite complicated because Germany and Italy were the two late unifiers among the major European nation states. Pan-Germanic sentiment was widespread but got tangled up in the struggle for primacy from the mid-18th century forward between Prussia and Austria: the north vs. the south, Protestan vs. Catholic, a relatively homogenous north German population vs. the heterogenous Austro-Hungarian conglomeration, eyes to the north and west vs. eyes to the south. The question of intra-German primacy was settled when the Austro-Hungarian empire was broken up at Versailles. But Hitler was not unusual in his pan-Germanic perspective. His early territorial demands were a step-by-step repudiation of Versailles — thus making a prophet of Foch, who referred to Versailles as “not a peace, but an armistice for 20 years.”

The historical ties between Russia and Ukraine are deep and longstanding, but Ukraine also has a strong separate identity, a language, important differences in history and significant historical grievances against the Moscow regime. Ultimately a nation is what people will fight to defend. It seems clear that Putin massively underestimated Ukraine’s willingness to fight, and in forcing the fight, Putin may have guaranteed Ukrainian separatism for another hundred years. He is giving the Ukrainian cousins a whole new set of fresh reasons to hate Russia.

It wasn’t just the camps with their gas chambers.

Prior to that the SS had been using mobile gas vans.

Large trucks fitted out so the exhaust fumes killed those in the bed of the truck.

It proved to be too messy and impractical how ever.

“Ultimately a nation is what people will fight to defend.”

Yep. History has shown that when nations are born from Treaties, as opposed to being fought for, the stage gets set for the next war. Look at how the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian Empire set the stage for WWII, and the breakup of the Soviet Union created the conditions for this war.

Good grief.

He STARTED with ethnic Germans. Once he saw he could convince people to hand over their not quite perfect loved ones to him for disposal he knew he could get them to do anything.

Good Lord, he began with ethnic Germans. Those with genetic abnormalities such as Downs were his first victims.

That is a good movie.

I knew a woman who, as a very young girl, lived in Hitler's bunker. Her father was a crypto radio operator. She remembered playing with the Goebbels children. She also remembers Hitler talking to them every morning before breakfast, and the special attention he gave to children.

I suppose technically Hitler did not use chemical weapons on the battlefield but he sure found the sane compounds quite useful is mass murder. The other so called academic talked about Danzig and the Polish quarter. He seemed to forget Hitler was given the German speaking Sudentenland, then he proceeded to take all of Czechslovakia. So the idea Hitler would stop if he was given the Polish corridor is ridiculous.

Obviously this jerk off never heard of Zyklon-B
