Why is the US Now Negotiating for Venezuelan Oil When We Have Our Own?

The Biden Administration has sent a team of negotiators to Caracas in an attempt to restart imports of Venezuelan oil to the US. The penchant Biden has for getting crucial oil from our enemies is staggeringly ignorant. We were energy independent for 4 years. Now we are dependent on dictators for the oil to run our society. He’s obviously afraid of the leftists aka “greenies” in his administration.

Venezuela is an ally, or “strategic partner” of Russia. The US believes it has begun to distance itself from Putin as the Russian economy begins to show serious repercussions from the sanctions. Last week, Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua all abstained from voting to condemn Russia for invading Ukraine at the UN. The Biden administration believes it’s a signal that the three dictatorships are moving away from Putin. Are they?

For the last several days and weeks, even before the invasion of Ukraine, Putin spent days on the phones with Venezuela dictator Nicolas Maduro and other autocratic leaders around the world. What he told them is unknown, because the link to their conversations has been blocked by internet companies.

Importing Venezuelan oil is not a smart move. Neither is importing Iranian oil. The smart move is to stop them all and re-up our own production. But the Biden administration is not smart.

Venezuela lacks the infrastructure at this point to contribute much. Patronage appointments destroyed their petroleum industry.

You clearly don’t understand the “science.” If oil is produced in Venezuela or Russia it does not contribute to CO2 emissions or global warming. It’s only oil produced in the US that does that. The people running Biteme’s energy policies are geniuses doncha know.

But the Biden administration is not smart.

Not smart.

Yep.

You have to be pretty stupid to be a traitor to your own country.

Who would be on board with letting themselves be controlled by the string pullers of the little bammy/prezzy potato head "administration?"

The insane, that's who.

...and Iranian oil... Because the weakening of America is their goal. Once understood, no absurdity of their decisions is as incomprehensible.

There are ongoing negotiations to buy Venezuelan oil because the Joe Stolen/”Que mala” Harris regime is stupid, the kind of stupid that cannot be fixed.

The US should ramp up its own internal exploration, extraction, transport and refining of petroleum, and expanding the network for distribution of natural gas to EVERY corner of the US, including the Northeast corridor, over the resistance of New York State to all gas pipelines crossing their state. Talk about a dog in the manger.

We should be shipping liquified natural gas to every port in the world equipped to handle LNG, and undercutting the Nordstream pipelines in price and volume, ending the revenue flow that is paying for the Russian excursion into the Ukraine. There are highly effective economic levers that can be used to break the Russian Federation and by extension, drive Putin from office, that are simply not being used.

You've hit the nail on the head.  The string-pullers behind the Biden administration are not at all averse to higher prices at the gas pump.  Quite the contrary, they think that's a good thing, as it just gives an economic push (well, fake economics anyway) to their Green New Deal agenda.

Buying foreign oil, rather than pumping our own is a triple win from their perspective.  First, they get a temporary, and partial solution that they hope will avoid 70's style shortages, which would be bad short-term politics for them.  Second, they avoid giving an economic lift to their domestic ideological enemies (including both the good working-class jobs and corporate stability) that domestic production creates.  And finally, they further weaken the US economy by sending more money to foreign producers.  They actually aren't stupid, they're evil, and they've decided that everyone who opposes them is their domestic enemy.

Because we’re governed by morons who think this is clever when it will appear to be ridiculously weak to both Russia and the Maduro regime.

Why? Because AOC says so.

The Greens rule energy policy in Washington D.C. That policy is causing wars and deaths but, in the eyes of the Greenies, it matters not when compared to the damage we are doing to the earth that will start to show up in a few thousand years.

Full tilt domestic energy production at warp speed could alleviate a lot of suffering, present and future, for us and the world. If only the simpletons and neoconservative warmongers would lobby for this action rather than perpetual war our children would have a brighter future.

Stupid on steroids. If we get it from them, it still adds to their dreaded carbon footprint. But it adds even more because of the shipping.

I’ll know the oil-hating loons are serious when they stop using it to dye their hair all those crazy colors and stop wearing yoga pants.

“3.99 a gal..in Florida......Florida’s highest recorded average price was $4.079 in July 2008, according to AAA.”

But everybody tells me inflation is like 20% a month so gas is really under a buck. Fill ‘er up.

Because Bidens White House staff, aka, Obozo’s White House staff who is really running the show, don’t want to admit they were short sighted and stupid.

Yep, my wife just passed a bunch of stations with gas at $3.99/gal. This does not bode well for the middle and lower middle class families without the means to fill up their gas tanks to get to work every day. I can’t wait to hear a frickin’ Democrat complain about the cost of gas...and I have to believe that this should get more registered Republicans than anything else.
