The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

The author nails it - petulant children
That’s the nice thing about DIY quotes (as opposed to the Arkansas Gazette), here we have a narrower audience to offend.
The apostrophe in the author’s last name is a huge clue. Seeing just 2 initials for the rest of author’s name made it instantly clear.
And you are so right about him hitting the nail on the head.
I always look at the author’s name first. Yesterday and today were easy for me. I don’t know how/why.
