You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days.  If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Princeton University at his last post.

A patent office at first.

The Swiss patent bureau, starting as a patent examiner, third class, later promoted to second class, then Berlin University, then the Institute for Advanced Studies, (in Princeton, NJ, but not affiliated with the Princeton University). I don’t think his last two employers thought that they were engaging an inferior intellect. What Hitler discarded, America gratefully embraced.

He worked at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, NJ, but it is not affiliated with the University. The job was created for him, and included a institute-provided and maintained home. His position was financed by wealthy patrons who stayed in the background, and only wanted to help him after the way the Nazis drove him out of Germany.

You should recognize NXANKX right away.

The I could see that all the letters in PFX (which is a common word in the CG and probably a verb) are in JDPFHXF. So it wasn’t too hard to finally figure out JDPFHXF.

Then the rest fell into place. Except I don’t know what the 1st letter in author’s last name is, although I could make a good guess.

About five minutes. I bounced around looking for the most common letters, but then I recognized the popular word pattern NXANKX. Solving that word opened up the rest of the puzzle.

3:15 minutes today.
Don’t really agree with the quote though.

I’ve been following that principle for 26 years now.

It’s working out pretty darn well, tbh.

“A-people” hire “A-people”, “B-People” hire “C-people”. Sounds like today’s author was one or the B’s.
