I believe she wrote it when she left Porter Wagoner’s show to have a solo career. Wagoner was her mentor and, while going solo was a great move, Dolly was still pained by the end of their partnership.

I prefer the Doug Heffernan karaoke version. Absolutely hilarious!

One of the most annoying songs of all time. Sorry.

Double dittos.

Fingernails on a blackboard horrible.

As in I quit listening to pop music stations while I worked horrible.

I wouldn’t lump in Adele with the rest of them.

The song was a lament that she was leaving Porter Wagonner’s tutelage, and an expression of gratitude for all he did to aid her in her career.

Whitney Houston had a beautiful voice, and her version of the Star Spangled Banner was awesome. THIS song, though — UUGH!! I hate her vocal gymnastics on this. “And I-I-I-I-Yi.. will always love YOUO—OO-OOOHOOOO-OOO-OH-OOOOO.”

Back when they actually sang melodies. Instead of variations on rap crap.

I adore Parton’s songwriting and singing. And Houston is the GOAT. Absolutely stunning voice. The song is fabulous. Excellence is a rare thing.
