A Dutch teenager completely forgot his native tongue after waking up from surgery and could only speak English, doctors have revealed.
The unidentified 17-year-old boy, thought to be from Maastricht, was in hospital for a knee operation following an injury during a football match.
But after he awoke from the anesthesia, he was unable to speak or understand any of the medics, who were speaking in Dutch.
Instead, he was only able to talk in English — a language he had only been learning at school and never used outside of the classroom.
The boy also failed to recognise his own parents and believed that he was in the US, specifically in Utah, a country he had never visited.
After 24 hours, the teenager 'spontaneously' recovered both his ability to speak and understand his native language after friends came to visit him.
And doctors who treated him, at the Maastricht University Medical Center, claim he has retained his native tongue since.
Detailing his case in a medical journal, scientists believe he developed an extremely rare case of foreign language syndrome.(snip)
With just eight cases recorded worldwide in scientific literature there are scant details about foreign language syndrome.
How common is it?
Extraordinarily rare, there have been only eight post-operative cases recorded in scientific literature since 1999.

But there are MILLIONS of two-year-olds in the world right now that have learned to speak CHINESE!
After all; eventually they'll finally reincarnate enough times to get it right and move on to nirvana; right?

Over the years, artists have sought to portray the Book of Mormon translation, showing the participants in many settings and poses with different material objects. Each artistic interpretation is based upon its artist’s own views, research, and imagination, sometimes aided by input and direction from others. Here are a few scenes produced throughout the years.
You'll note that nothing was said about having his face in a hat during the 'translation' process.
"Now the way he translated was he put the urim and thummim into his hat and Darkned his Eyes than he would take a sentance and it would apper in Brite Roman Letters. Then he would tell the writer and he would write it. Then that would go away the next sentance would Come and so on. But if it was not Spelt rite it would not go away till it was rite, so we see it was marvelous. Thus was the hol [whole] translated."---Joseph Knight's journal.
"In writing for your father I frequently wrote day after day, often sitting at the table close by him, he sitting with his face buried in his hat, with the stone in it, and dictating hour after hour with nothing between us."

"I, as well as all of my father's family, Smith's wife, Oliver Cowdery and Martin Harris, were present during the translation. . . . He [Joseph Smith] did not use the plates in translation."

In an 1885 interview, Zenas H. Gurley, then the editor of the RLDS Saints Herald, asked Whitmer if Joseph had used his "Peep stone" to do the translation. Whitmer replied:
"... he used a stone called a "Seers stone," the "Interpreters" having been taken away from him because of transgression. The "Interpreters" were taken from Joseph after he allowed Martin Harris to carry away the 116 pages of Ms [manuscript] of the Book of Mormon as a punishment, but he was allowed to go on and translate by use of a "Seers stone" which he had, and which he placed in a hat into which he buried his face, stating to me and others that the original character appeared upon parchment and under it the translation in English."
"Martin Harris related an incident that occurred during the time that he wrote that portion of the translation of the Book of Mormon which he was favored to write direct from the mouth of the Prophet Joseph Smith. He said that the Prophet possessed a seer stone, by which he was enabled to translate as well as from the Urim and Thummim, and for convenience he then used the seer stone, Martin explained the translation as follows: By aid of the seer stone, sentences would appear and were read by the Prophet and written by Martin and when finished he would say 'Written,' and if correctly written that sentence would disappear and another appear in its place, but if not written correctly it remained until corrected, so that the translation was just as it was engraven on the plates, precisely in the language then used."

In 1879, Michael Morse, Emma Smith's brother-in-law, stated:"When Joseph was translating the Book of Mormon [I] had occasion more than once to go into his immediate presence, and saw him engaged at his work of translation. The mode of procedure consisted in Joseph's placing the Seer Stone in the crown of a hat, then putting his face into the hat, so as to entirely cover his face, resting his elbows upon his knees, and then dictating word after word, while the scribes Emma, John Whitmer, O. Cowdery, or some other wrote it down."

Joseph Smith's brother William also testified to the "face in the hat" version:"The manner in which this was done was by looking into the Urim and Thummim, which was placed in a hat to exclude the light, (the plates lying near by covered up), and reading off the translation, which appeared in the stone by the power of God"("A New Witness for Christ in America,"Francis W. Kirkham, 2:417.)
"The manner in which he pretended to read and interpret was the same manner as when he looked for the money-diggers, with the stone in his hat, while the book of plates were at the same time hid in the woods."---Isaac Hale (Emma Smith's father's) affidavit, 1834.

Quite the experience. Helpful would be if you had a home page with your particulars. In my opinion many folks would regard your experience as a freak out and be unable to process it in the way you did for the benefit of the ER Nurse.
I too was freaked out by the experience.
After many years as a university professor and business executive, I died, left my body and crossed over to Heaven. I reluctantly returned to this body and wanted to die again to re-experience God’s profound Love.
Thus began an intellectual and spiritual journey to understand and re-experience Heaven.
I picked up another degree, in psychology and took courses in neuroscience, anatomy & physiology, and studied all religions.
As part of understanding consciousness, prayer and meditation I studied hypnosis and trance states. I became certified in medical hypnosis and used it for a short period of time working with clients in various venues, especially ideopathic illnesses.
The session I mentioned was the second session I ever did as a total greenhorn.
I have no website and purposely have not published as I don’t want a following or fame as it would decrease my connection and reliance upon God.
I share here in hopes that others might learn from my experience.
The ER nurse benefitted 8n that when the spirit of the man killed in the auto accident was no longer attached to her, all the pain she was experiencing that was his, not hers, left.
I had major shoulder surgery a year and a half ago and I still can't speak or understand Dutch......weird

I have to assume you are talking about spirit possession which is mentioned a great deal in the Bible. Less so in the world today. That doesn’t mean it isn’t an issue. We don’t know the rules those spirits operate under, but it is apparent they are able to exercise some degree of power over humans unless sent on their way.
Then there is this: “After many years as a university professor and business executive, I died, left my body and crossed over to Heaven. I reluctantly returned to this body and wanted to die again to re-experience God’s profound Love.” Obviously you have much to look forward too.
