Disco sucked.
My son (21 years old) is in a rock band in Paris, they play nothing written after 1975.
You are absolutely correct.
Who defines what is Rock? Lemmy, an obvious Subject Matter Expert, stated “We are Motorhead. We play Rock and Roll”. No one would disagree with him.
Now listen to another bass player- Paul McCartney. Does he sound anything like Lemmy? Absolutely not. Paul plays Pop Music.

This comment and the opening essay are some of the reasons I stay with Free Republic. The sea of knowledge here is so vast, it’s like taking university lectures all day while reclining on my float toy in blissful learning. Before the universities went woke, of course.

Amen and amen. I would add, from a contrarian perspective, that Red Dirt music will save your soul.

8. Michael Jackson
9. Whitney Houston
10. Rihanna
“John Mellencamp (four weeks with “Jack & Diane”)”
I always thought it was John Cougar. Did he get married or something?
John Cougar Mellencamp started his music career using just his middle name. At some point after his first album he added his last name to his official credits. So “Jack & Diane” should be correctly listed as John Cougar and his later work as John Cougar Mellencamp. He should never be referred to as John Mellencamp.
This shows that the author really does not not know his rock and roll.
Interesting, Rihanna beat out Beyonce.
Hmmm, so the term Rock and Roll was originally used in the 1950s to apply to performers like Elvis, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, etc. But you would say they aren't Rock and Roll, because they don't sound like Lemmy?
