It was 5 years ago today, just about 5:30 p.m. that I awoke from the powerful sedation which had me down for just over 10 hours. At the same time that I became conscious I was being extubated. It was a strange thing for me as the Amnesiac effects of the medications were confusing me, but I at once wanted to know what time it was.

While being prepped for my surgery, I focused completely on the clock in my sight. It was 07:25 a.m. but I was determined to remember that. Just before they put me under, a fellow had an electric razor to shave my chest hair. It is rather sparse on me, but I wondered to myself ‘How does a person get a job doing such things? Who would apply for such a position? How much does it pay?’ Well, those thoughts faded quickly and the next thing I knew the ET Tube was being pulled out. I attempted to assist with that but I was a bit restrained and still clearly confused.

Then came the thirst. OMG, the incessant need for quenching. They restricted me quickly to 8 ounces an hour. It was maddening. I was immediately put on fluid restrictions. I was permitted 500 CCs per day, for a freaking week. I handled it though. I asked the Nurse how many CCs in a can of Diet Pepsi? How much in an orange juice? How much was in an Emsure.

I had their heads spinning as I watched the clock and manipulated my liquids like a Human Computer. By 11;00 at night I had one more drink and it brought me exactly to 500 CCs. At Midnight it was ‘Oh Nurse, could I have a Diet Pepsi please?’ Oh I won them over quickly, I was so charming, but dang I was so forever thirsty.

The thing that puzzled them the most was that I was in absolutely no pain whatsoever. I had 3 chest tubes in me and a catheter. I learned something for my own work that week. There is no ‘holding it’ when you have a catheter. It is all gravity or something. I was peeing on auto pilot. I did not feel anything.

Anyhow after a couple of days of my routine, the Nurse Practitioner came to me because I was declining the PRN pain pills. I told her that I had no pain, none, so I did not require pain pills. That was a strange conversation. She was nice, cute as well, but very young. I liked her. I continued to decline the remedy for my nonexistent pain.

I had my IPAD with me during my ‘bed rest’ so I did my surf stuff, much as I do these days. If you want to know about my procedure, go look up the actor Bill Paxton. His medical history, age, and medical Hx is almost identical to my own. He had his surgery a few days before I had mine.

Big difference though, he died. That was alarming to me. Yet, here I sit 5 years later Posting about it.

Tonight I watched the streaming from Ottawa and I feel blessed to have lived so long that I might have realized such great courage from our neighbors to the North. Trudeau is going down. This incredible miscalculation by He and his Team is simply astonishing to behold.

Did Q or Trump anticipate this sort of event? It is like Hari Seldon stuff. It is as if so many things are falling into place, and I am here on my ‘borrowed time’ able to see it all unfold. I feel very special.

I am promised no days by God, but I have so far seen these days, and I am simply fascinated by all of it.

Some words that struck me and stayed with me:

“I used to pray for an easy life; now I pray to be a strong person”.
