I once heard a story about old RADIO networks, when NBC was divided into NBC Blue Network and NBC Red Network. Apparently there was quite the rivalry between them.
The story concerns an infamous flub by one of the announcers, in which he mixed two words into each other, with disastrous results.
His downfall?
“Here at NBC Blue Network, we get our news from reliable White Horse Souses.”
๐ That reminds me of "And now the virgin of the Governor Islands!"

Yes; as I mentioned ABC was born of the sale of one of those networks; I forget which (age). ABC Radio Network had modern studios with the new professional Ampex tape recorders, smooth sounding compressed microphones, sound processing equipment such as compressors and audio frequency 'equalizers'.
I had occasion to visit the NBC studios to see a friend. I was stunned to see that they were still cutting all their recordings on large record disks, still using the original ribbon microphones, the BX44 and Rx77. NBC TV did have (huge) color cameras; we had the older GE black and white TK44. (?) The Japanese changed all of that with miniaturization.
