John Leguizamo admitted that he tries to stay out of the sun in order to stay “light-skinned” for film roles.
The 57-year-old Latino actor was recently interviewed for the Academy Awards’ “Seen series,” during which he opened up about his experiences in Hollywood.
“I definitely would not go in the sun for years. It was a conscious thing because I could work,” the “Romeo + Juliet” star said. “And all the Latinos that made it so far, a lot of them were all light-skinned,” he added. “What happened to all the Afro-Latinos and the majority of indigenous Latinos? They don’t get a shot, you know. So, there’s a lot of things we got to deal with in Hollywood, and we got to fix, and we got to speak out and we got to speak up.”

I think this creep is FOS. Hasn’t he been watching TV lately. If you’re “light skinned”, YOU AREN’T GOING TO GET A JOB.
So Hollywood is racist. What else is new?
Then find a way to do what film director Tyler Perry has been doing for several years: work with experienced screenwriters to come up with good scripts that feature certain minorities.
“What happened to all the Afro-Latinos and the majority of indigenous Latinos? They don’t get a shot”
BS, the film and television industry has a negro fetish as far as I have noticed. Everything is all about them it would appear.
Maybe central Americans are just too light skinned to cut it in the woke cesspool of current film and TV.
He’s 5’2”. Not many roles for runts.
I thought White Hispanics were considered just as guilty of racism as White Caucasians?
So what, so does my daughter. She is avoiding skin cancer and loves her own look. Japanese women and women from earlier centuries did it as well. It is a fashion statement...but I guess today you can use it to proclaim racism and victim status. Lost a lot of interest in this guy.
Well, plus his ugly mug
My dearly departed gay brother always kind of hated this guy. He saw him as a real poseur. IIRC, brother was particularly exercised about JL being the Grand Marshall of the Puerto Rican Day parade, because he’s not actually Puerto Rican. Maybe he’s Columbian?
I’ll tell you what he is great in - “Bloodline” a miniseries that was about a prominent Florida family. Everyone in it was great, but Leguizamo was a revelation!
He’s also really good in the new Disney animated movie “Encanto”. TBH, I was shocked it was him, I really thought that part was being played by Ray Romano! Hey, but the movie takes place in Columbia, so maybe that is his heritage.
My advice to John, nobody cares what the color of your skin is, but if you are super neurotic about it, just keep voicing the cartoons.
Hispanics are not a race. White Hispanics are Caucasians.
..
Hollywood has outlived its usefulness.
It needs to be burned to the ground, so to speak.
Could say the exact same thing about Washington D.C.
Everybody knows light skinned people who are not called white
are used as non-white for hiring purposes in all industries ....etc.
You can be less than 1% Indian , and can be considered aboriginal...I used to work with some and they all looked white.
Barack Obama is white/black, but....
This cab be a great argument about race/different races,
unless stupidity gets in the way, as always these days.
Right. Hollywood is very unaccepting of minorities. Look at Ophrah Winfree.
The highest selling cosmetic worldwide is “skin lightening creams”.......there are actually skin bleaching clinics abroad where people are infused with skin lightening formulas.
When people were asked abroad why they use these products it’s always the same answer.....”Lighter is better” .
Concur 1,000%.
And Mexico is not a race, it’s a country. How is it racist to not like Mexicans? The French don’t like us but nobody calls them racists.
I don’t believe it. Hollywood goes out of their way to hire “minorities”.
