SEATTLE — A long-time Seattle business owner is sounding off after he said his business has been "hit" by crime seven times in the past three months alone.
This past weekend, Jay Ashberg, the owner of Seattle Shirt Company, said there were back-to-back burglaries at his store.
The Seattle Shirt Company is located on the corner of First Avenue and Pike Street. Ashberg is still in shock of how far he believes Seattle has fallen.
"This city is unrecognizable to what it was even five years ago, between the homeless and the lack of police, the whole defund the police, decriminalize, it doesn't work," Ashberg said.
Ashberg said these are contributing factors to the large number of businesses closing throughout the city. It's also the reason why he said his business has been "hit" by crime seven times in the past three months, with people vandalizing and stealing from his store.
"We lost probably between seventeen and nineteen thousand dollars - between the cash, the damage to the property and the merchandise," Ashberg said.
(snip)
"If things don't turn around in the next six to twelve months, I'm out of here, I don't need this. It's not worth it. I know there's hundreds of businesses that have closed and I'm going to be one of them," Ashberg said.

You could see this coming a long ways off. I left the East side for good in 1998. Now living in rural north Idaho. Bo regrets.
What does he think is going to change for the better in 12 months?
Welcome to Detroit...
The smart ones already left.
Way to go Seattle moron voters! You so deserve the chaos and anarchy you have supported for years.
Yup—being stupid has already cost the guy a lot of money.
It is going to cost him a lot more.
Life is fair—stupid should hurt.
Soon ... another 5 or 6 years?
I don’t understand why he’s still there. That’s a bad part of Seattle (to be fair, there really aren’t any good parts) and has been for decades.
All providers of goods and services need to leave, all deliveries cut off and all law enforcement needs to leave and tell the leftist idiots “this is what you wanted, bye-bye, oh and by the way, if you try to bring your leftist nonsense to another state or town, you will be shot on sight.”
Two back to back burglaries in his store already.......he should be packing up now.
The people of Idaho need to shoot any leftist that tries to pollute their state with their anti-human ideas.
He won’t leave. He was a big enough fool to come there in the first place. He will stay. And cry, squall, and bitch. Never realizing or caring he has been voting for this shit through the years.
Exactly my thoughts.
Who wants to make a bet this same buisness owner has voted for the democrat taliban party his entire life?
Some people have specific things anchoring them to an area (family, school, work, etc.) and once that thing is no longer holding them, they are GONE. It is happening here in NJ; whereas many Americans moved out of Jersey after retiring, now many are leaving when the last child graduates high school. Young adults who attend college in other states often never return, so the parents don’t have them keeping them here.
The flight of capital can’t be ignored; don’t assume this guy won’t leave. It may be something as simple as a lease agreement keeping him there temporarily.
How I miss Duke’s Clam Chowder Emporium...
This guy has no chance his situation will improve. 6-12 more months means his store should be attacked 15-35 more times.

Like a good lib, he’ll hold out even then and until his only customers are the looters, robbers, vandals ... and one of them clubs him to death (a crime never solved likely).
