Flames from the Colorado Fire, the uncommon winter wildfire on the Big Sur coast, continued burning the hills and canyons along curvaceous Highway 1 and near the famous Bixby Bridge.
Whipped by strong winds over the weekend, the fire consumed a hillside near the bridge and neared its approach, Saturday according to dramatic nighttime photographs and reports. But Caltrans officials said the bridge, and the rest of Highway 1, were not endangered by the fire.
The fire ignited in the area near the bridge Friday night, forcing about 500 people to evacuate and prompting the shutdown of Highway 1, Big Sur’s main street and one of California’s top tourist attractions. As of Monday morning, it had burned about 700 acres and was 35% contained, Cal Fire spokesperson Cecile Juliette said.

It’s GLOWBULL WARMING!
The fire would have been a good back drop for a car TV commercial. Maybe a electric vehicle commercial.
For an REO Speedwagon.
That looks similar to the bridge blown up in the old movie “Salute to the Marines”(1943). I saw it last night.
Does anyone really care what happens to the nesting grounds of the maggot infested long haired hippies?

thought looked similar to bridge in “Force 10 from navarone”
In the 1980s I would bicycle down the Pacific Coast Highway PCH in the summer. One of those years Big Sur had another large fire. As I stopped to camp overnight, the locals talked about the evening’s entertainment, to hike up the ridge and watch the fire. The older ones knew that every 10-20 years there was a fire. Back then Globull Cooling was all the rage.
You are from Southern California? They don’t call it PCH up here, it’s Highway 1.
