Did Coke change their beverage formula? It tastes differently than before.

“You may have bought Mexican Coke, which uses cane sugar.”

Yep, there’s always a risk of having real sugar instead of HFCS when you buy products that are not made in the US.

Also, I found as I passed fifty (which is now so far back I can’t even see it in the rear view) that my taste changed. Things I’d loved, chocolate cake, soft drinks, candy, no longer tasted good.

I have had that happen to me and I have not had COVID; started after I passed 60. I used to love to drink black coffee. I liked it so black that it bordered on espresso. One morning several years ago I drank some strong coffee with a somewhat bitter taste (I still liked it). Later that morning I became violently ill and started throwing up. Even though I don't think the coffee caused it, it was the last think I'd had before the nausea hit and for several weeks, I didn't drink it at all. Eventually I started drinking coffee again, but from that time onward I have had to have cream in my coffee to smooth out the bitterness and acidity. I no longer drink as much either. I used to love the flavor so much I drank decaf in addition to regular (but could not take caffeine all day). Now I drink about 3 regular cups of coffee per day (with cream) and I usually have to have a palette cleanser afterward to get rid of the bitter aftertaste.

Another taste that changed was IPA beer. I used to love extremely hoppy IPAs, but now the flavor profile does not appeal to me. They taste like someone poured some grapefruit juice into a beer. Now I cannot abide anything hoppier than Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or Samuel Adams Boston Lager.

My mother-in-law buys the canned diet cokes and they are just flat out nasty. They taste like they are watered down to near no flavor compared to the fountain diet cokes. I can’t stomach drinking them. I don’t buy coke products and in general will drink water but if I am inclined to drink a diet soda, Diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Mt. Dew are my go to drinks.

I was a habitual Coke drinker for almost 50 years. I’m talking 4-5 Diet Cokes and later Coke Zero’s per day every day.

I have not had so much as a sip of any Woca Cola product since they came out against election integrity and since they told us all to be less White. The part of my Whiteness I decided to give up was supporting this company in any way.

Could be a batch of coke from a different bottling plant. The water in different areas affects the taste of the finished product.
Then there is no telling what the municipality that provides the water is putting in the water supply. Too much chlorine and OOPS! you taste it in your bottled soft drinks.

there was a coke machine in our shop that dispensed 10 oz bottles of Coke.

I remember Coke machines in Montreal way back that dispensed 10 oz. cans. Maybe your soda came from Canada?

Both Coke and RC original formulations were in Columbus, Georgia.

My father worked 35 years in the soft drink industry. He wouldn’t drink any of it and I haven’t had any in over 40 years. It really is just cheap candy dissolved in fizzy water.

No, possible the bottler screwed up the batch... or perhaps it had been sitting too long and picked up the plastic bottle flavor... but no Coke hasn’t changed its formulation.

If it was from a fountain, and not in a can or bottle, most likely the fountain needs to be calibrated not remotely uncommon to see the syrup to water ratios are off.

Fountains can adjust the strength of the formulation (syrup to water ratio). I do not know if this is still the case, but to save money, fountain Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi had continued to mix saccharin with the aspartame long after they went all aspartame on the cans and bottle. No labels on the fountain drinks.

Fountain drink quality varies. Those 100 in 1 machines at Wendy's and other outlets use powder instead of syrup. It makes a difference,

Canada? Nope. They could have been 8 ounce bottles, not 10. And there was a city molded into the bottom of the glass. These bottles ended up getting mixed around a lot, so you could have a bottle from Seattle, or from Denver, (or wherever, it was 40+ years ago so give me a break...) but the actual bottler was printed on the cap.

Another thing that young bored airmen liked to do was to bet on who could get a bottle with the city furthest away from Mtn. Home.

This is what the bottles looked like:
