A private business is perfectly within their rights to do so (or should be, in a sane nation).
Just as a private consumer is perfectly within their rights to purchase from another source and tell said private gutless business to FO.
Indeed. They have no mandate cover on this. No one is making them do this and what they are requiring is not just a work-only act. It affects the employee 24/7/365. I can see PI lawyers just licking their chops waiting for the first vaccine-caused injury or death lawsuit.
That’s unfortunate. Just called to let them know. Thanks.
Count on the fact that I will not be buying any Carhartt any time soon.
True! (...and that’s the most awesome emojie thread, ever!)
“Their quality has been going downhill for awhile now.”
I have two Carhartt jackets, both of which I bought about 15 years ago. They are still my go-to coats for outside work. Yes, they have faded to a whitish yellow, and are quite frayed at the cuffs; but I wear them for their utility quality, not for a fashion statement. I’m in my early 70s, so they’ll likely last me until I give up the ghost (in any event, I will not buy new ones).
FYI - Duluth is woke too. Told them thanks but no thanks.
originmaine.com may be unwoke, still waiting on an email response. Expensive though.
“There are great alternatives to wearing a firehose for pants and other items. Wrangler work pants, Duluth, Berne to name a few.”
I mostly wear Dickies heavy work pants that I picked up at Walmart. They are pretty damn sturdy, though they do wear out (but I work the hell out of them).
Yep they used to be good. Hubby goes through work clothes like nothing due to being in the trades.
Oh scold me, scold me please! I’m an “old man” (a daughter is 60), and apparently grew up in a different neighborhood than you. Oh, and you’ve probably never been on a construction crew, in the military, on a football team, etc.
Sad, I like my clothes
“Cripes! I retired and now that’s all I wear!”
I have been wearing their clothes since my retirement too. I guess we are going to have to find something else.
Filson went hipster years ago.
the last t-shirts were terrible after they were laundered..and yes, they pill up and look terrible..
Our son shops Duluth and he took dad and got him dress shirts, they look nice and fit well, so will now try out their t-shirts...
No more Carhartt...although he just got a new winter jacket, he really likes..but it will last for years...by then another brand will be out and about...we drive into PA. as no sales tax on clothing, at least for now....
just sharing...
Carhartt is getting crushed on Twitter.
Great... where will I get jeans from now? I wore Levi's until they went woke. Their product quality went way down hill before that anyways so no major loss. Can't stand the look of Wranglers. Who's left? At least Carhartt jeans lasted but I don't support SJW companies.
“Somehow I doubt all the indignant around here had no clue that Carhartt had woke tendencies. Yet that never stopped them from spending money.”
It simple really.
I don’t go look into a company’s politics, I just buy the products that I want. I just don’t care that much, and don’t have that kind of time.
But when they feel it’s necessary to signal their virtue, raise their hand a tell everyone they’re woke to get points from the political establishment, then I will notice, and avoid them like the plague.
“And I thought we were all okay with a private business making a decision for themselves?”
Your indignation is based on something no one has said. Of course they’re free to make their own decisions, just as we are free to not buy their products if we don’t like their decisions.
I checked out the Berne website and the first two items I checked were imported, didn’t say from where. I hope it’s not China.
Not indignation.
Just a little hypocrisy. Folks spent a year saying an individual business should decide its own policy, then crying when one they “like” actually does.
