As the omicron variant of the coronavirus continues to surge onboard cruise ships, forcing several cruise lines to cancel and postpone voyages, Atlantis Events, a gay and lesbian tour operator, is preparing to launch one of its biggest events Sunday: a 4,700-person Caribbean cruise marking the company’s 30th anniversary.
Even as the pandemic is raging around the world and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a stark warning telling Americans to avoid travel on cruise ships, regardless of their vaccination status, Atlantis insists that its vaccination mandate, testing requirements and health protocols are enough to provide a safe environment for guests throughout the voyage. Many passengers are convinced.
“It’s time to start living our lives again, and vaccines and tests allow us to do that. This isn’t COVID 2020,” said Andre Mayer, a graphic designer from Germany who paid more than $4,000 for the weeklong cruise on board Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. “This is going to be the wildest party for our community in two years. I’m talking dirty dancing, sex, drugs, raves, orgies and sweet, sweet freedom.”
For the hundreds of cruise passengers who contracted the coronavirus on board other ships in recent weeks, many falling ill and spending days in quarantine, their experience couldn’t have been further from the carefree vacation that Mayer anticipates.
For some booked on the anniversary cruise and other Atlantis events, these reports and the omicron wave of the virus are causing them to reconsider their plans.
“The COVID reality changes so quickly that there needs to be more flexibility,” said Aiden Morgan, a 44-year-old dance teacher from Boston. Morgan sold his ticket for the Atlantis Tropical Americas Cruise later this month on Facebook but was only offered $1,480 for his $3,800 ticket.

A Hell no. B shouldn’t they be more worried about HIV? C none of my business.
Who cares about covid ?
I would be far more worried about the very real and deadly diseases like Syphilis and HIV, and Gonorrhea

Homosexuals are politically correct. They can do anything they want and not be criticized for it.
I posted this so if this cruise goes well, it will be good news for the cruise industry.
But we should all remember the last line in this excerpted article:
““Everyone will party hard and hook up and trust me: If they get a few little COVID symptoms, they are not going to tell nobody.” - Tom
At one time, my wife and I owned a travel agency, so sold airline tickets, tours, cruises, etc.
One day a couple of butch looking women came into the agency seeking information on a cruise line we had never heard of.
Olivia Cruises was the cruise line, we said we would get the information, the two women mentioned it was actually a tour company that specialized in Lesbian Cruises, they would charter the entire ship, no men other than the staff would be allowed on board.
So we sent off to Olivia Cruises for information, they were more than eager to have us sell their product. One of the promotional items they sent was a video tape of what went on during one of their cruises.
Sure enough it was lebians from every age group, early 20’s thru 70’s.
Personally I don’t care what you do in private, we had a good working relationship with the two lesbians who came back in and bought a few cruises from us and were generally nice people to work with.
To hell with keeping them safe, how about the ports that disease cruise is going to infect?
2/3 of new Hepatitis infections are male homos (CDC), why not ask just what it is they do to contract and spread it? Do cruise ship ports want them there?
I guarantee you, there are worse viruses than Covid that will be spread on THAT ship.
I can’t answer the headline but I’m confidant all the passengers on the ship will look “fabulous”.
Covid is the least of the concerns for a “healthy” cruise. That ship would have to be burned for it to be sanitary again.
"On Friday, Royal Caribbean also canceled sailings aboard four ships, citing "ongoing COVID-related circumstances":
Vision of the Seas — postponed until March 7.
Serenade of the Seas — postponed until April 26
Jewel of the Seas sailings — postponed until February 20
Symphony of the Seas — postponed until January 29
I would feel for the crew if any got sick. For the poofters? Nope.
Torpedo it in deep water. Will solve the covid problem.
Torpedo it in deep water. Will solve the covid problem.
The bug chasers of the other bug will probably be out in force.
Again, the crew wouldn’t deserve it.
“Personally I don’t care what you do in private”
You aren’t Christian? Don’t care they offend God?
You mean, like this?
Passengers stuck at sea after Norwegian cancels cruise mid-voyage"Travelers on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship in the Caribbean have become stuck at sea after the company called off the trip mid-voyage due to COVID-19 issues, according to a report.
Aimee Focaraccio said she boarded the Norwegian Gem from New York for a 10-day trip last Sunday for her birthday, but the vacation became a “nightmare” when the cruise line canceled the voyage four days later and provided no timeline for the ship to return, USA Today reported." - NYPost.com, January 16, 2022
Cleaning the pools and hot tubs will be a major operation.
