Here is the definitive video of this song. It was shot on LI in a back yard. Chicks, Harleys, big drum kits. Doesn't get much better than this:

Bill Bartlett was the guitarist w/ the Lemon Pipers and played Green Tambourine.

He's also a cool dude to take this guy's call and fill in some blanks. 250 million + views. Amazing.

Always wondered what was up with that song.

It’s such a great song. Nothing more needs to be said, everyone knows it’s a classic. The guitar riff alone is easily among the top 5 riffs of all time.

In the Long Island video, I love when Bill takes the pick to the neck of the guitar. Just jacking it up a bit more. He also had a great “guitar lift” at the start. Just good music w/ lousy/corrupt agents/record companies.

Ah, yes, back when rock was unapologetic and didn’t feel it needed to weigh in on all the injustice of the world. That was then, and it was great.

Actually the band members say that this video is not what it appears to be. It was edited together from various footage. Not all of it was even for this song. I don’t remember the details. It is a well made video though.

I’d always heard it was a Civil War march song about a gun.

That’s my understanding as well. However, the first youtube video linked has Bartlett in his own words saying the 2nd and 3rd verses are about Betty Page.

Me - I think the 2nd is about addiction and the 3rd is about a random woman. But I’m not Bill Bartlett.

Yeah - that was linked at the start of the post - the whole idea behind the post actually.

IDK your link goes to the song video. And the group that actually recorded the video was called “Star Struck”. Nothing I saw mentioned in the op or the comments.

There are two different links. One that starts the post (the call from the rocker), and another (the Long Island video) that links the 250 million view video.

I’m well aware of Star Struck.

Very unlikely that someone is going to catch that first video the way you did it. I Recommend next time that you post all links in your comments if you really want people to see them.

Also I never heard of “yousetube”... :)
