Kelly McCarthy may be the only adult in America who thinks it’s legal for some airline passengers to bring firearms onto planes in their carry-on bags. So, it only makes sense that Kelly McCarthy is a Cook County judge.
McCarthy released Aguilar on his own recognizance.
If her name sounds familiar, it’s because we wrote about McCarthy’s stunning debut as a felony bond court judge in November. During her first session, McCarthy set bail for 27 defendants. She gave 22 recognizance bonds — including two charged with felony robbery. She refused to grant prosecutors’ requests to have several defendants held without bail, including one charged with attempted murder for allegedly beating, stomping, and choking his pregnant girlfriend for 20 minutes.
In one case, even though nobody asked for it, McCarthy took the unprecedented step of ordering a robbery victim to show up in court to be served with an order to protect the man who allegedly robbed her at gunpoint.

UNLIKELY, YOU WILL SEE DAYLIGHT FOR A LONG TIME.
I can see an innocent mistake. But how did he gun get through security?
Ahh good, security did catch it. Whew, I was thinking he flew with it.
Makes sense, it’s part of the judicial system in Chicago.
The teacher needed to own a gun to protect himself from those evil gun owners.
Crazy. Everyone knows it’s not permitted. Btw, many people have forgotten their firearm in a carryon. Completely irresponsible, but it happens more than you’d think. While there will be an arrest, and citation, I never once saw anyone treated like a terrorist over it. (During my close to 10 years working at an airport. Like any interaction with the police, it depends on your behavior.
Hard to miss that huge black image on the monitor.
Nice pistol.
Kelly Marie McCarthy ( Democratic Party) is a judge of the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. She assumed office on December 7, 2020. Her current term ends on December 7, 2026. McCarthy ( Democratic Party) ran for election for judge of the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois.

Moocheelllee???
Sorry, feelin' kind of saucy here this morning.
I see no problem with otherwise lawful gun owners carrying their concealed firearm aboard a commercial mode of transport, airlines included. Since when does a person’s right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness end because a person travels aboard some non-private means of transport? Come on, fella’s, millions of lawfully (and many unlawfully) armed people carry everyday most everywhere. There isn’t blood running in the streets in most locales, and it certainly isn’t the lawfully armed shedding blood illicitly as well.
Hoplophobes notwithstanding.
McCarthy and the prosecutor engaged in an awkward exchange after she was presented with the state’s allegations during Aguilar’s bond hearing.Ignorant prosecutor, as well. In case they're both listening:
McCarthy: I have a question. He has a valid [Firearm Owner’s ID] and a valid [concealed carry license], but the basis of this allegation is that he didn’t have it properly stored, correct?
Prosecutor: Based on the facts, it’s that he carried it through the X-ray machine…
McCarthy: Well, you can do that. It just has to be stored properly …
Prosecutor: I’m not aware of the proper procedure at this time, your honor.
McCarthy: Okay. All right. My understanding is that it has to be properly stored and it can’t be loaded. It has to be in a locked case.
You may transport unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided container as checked baggage only.

Well, is it possible that she was bringing it along to teach someone how to use it?

This seems very libertarian. But with the nuts and ill-tempered loonies that fly these days, planes and bodies sucked through windows would be dropping out of the sky every week. I would hate to be on a flight under these rules where they ran out of biscuits or goldfish, or someone farted!
Libertarians always make the mistake that everyone is at least as logical, reasonable, and civilized as they are.
You’ve never been to O’Hare. What security? There isn’t any until the TSA.
Lol. It was just a factual statement. Some people have dirty minds on this page.
People want to kill each in mid flight other over masks. They don’t need a firearm to make it happen. Let them settle it on the ground where so many people aren’t in the way.
Son’s best friend is a Secret Service agent and carries wherever he goes including flying. He told us about checking in at the airport and doing the necessary paperwork. Gets on the flight and a stewardess comes up to him and says something to the effect that he was their armed SS agent.
Said he was pretty upset about it because it made him a target and he didn’t feel like he could take a nap on the flight.
