I've long thought that real tobacco, in small doses, does no harm. My conclusions are purely my observations and I'm no scientist.
Relatives/ancestors from NC tobacco farming...all this from tobacco they grew - Grandfather smoked two hand rolled cigs a day, no more, lived to 97 years. Grandmother dipped snuff, only in the evening, lived to 96. Great-grandmother smoked a pipe, lived to 94. Great-aunt smoked a few hand rolled cigs a day lived to 102. All died from old age, no cancer. Farmers, clean diet of home grown foods and meat from animals they raised or hunted.
From former husbands family, both grandparents died of lung cancer, neither one of them ever smoked nor were in a household with second hand smoke. Key here (IMO)...stay active, eat clean, and your vices to a minimum. I agree the store bought cigs have so many added chemicals that's what does the damage, as well as smoking like a chimney. Moderation is key.
