If one wants licorice for medicinal use, just buy powdered licorice root. Very sweet. Not good for high BP people though. Very good in moderation for acid reflux, among other things. Sore throat too.

Yep. I keep it on hand and use moderate amounts in my juice drinks to help my seasonal allergies; I also read it had antiviral properties and took it to combat my coof infection.
Most so-called licorice candies should actually be called anise candies, since that’s what they’re flavored with, and they have no licorice root in them.
