If one wants licorice for medicinal use, just buy powdered licorice root.


Yep. I keep it on hand and use moderate amounts in my juice drinks to help my seasonal allergies; I also read it had antiviral properties and took it to combat my coof infection.

Most so-called licorice candies should actually be called anise candies, since that’s what they’re flavored with, and they have no licorice root in them.

Interesting about “licorice” candy; anise is very similar flavored. I always have powdered licorice on hand, it is also good to harmonize herb formulas, many traditional Chinese herb formulas have licorice in them.
