Why anyone wants one of those things in the home remains a mystery to me.It is listening and recording all of the time. I said this to someone and they said it only listens when you say "Alexa"...then I said how can it only listen for that phrase? They were like, "Duh...."

It turns on my Media center, selects my music or TV station at my verbal request from anywhere in my house.
It sends my shopping list to my phone.
It tells me the weather forecast.
It rings my phone when I misplace it.
and more

It plays music pretty well and it contains useful information.

I disconnected ours after the recent studies that came out from Google and Amazon admitting that they’re recording everything and storing it in their cloud. Google is outright evil. I gave Amazon the benefit of the doubt, but that’s been rescinded.

I’ve had two of them for years. They were hits. They are still in their boxes.

Some people are comforted by the idea that the NSA/FBI/CIA is always monitoring their home.

Never had any “smart crap” in my condo — no Nest, no Alexa, no Ring, just my HP box running Win-7 Pro x64. No mic or camera.

I have a dumbass, apparently former buddy of mine who has this in his house, and the GPS tracker on his car, the whole works. I asked him one day if it didn't bother him that he could be tracked and monitored 24x7, and he replied "Why would it? I have nothing to hide."
A lot of our fellow citizens aren't even American anymore.

I used to like asking Alexa who the president is just to here it say “The president of the United States is Donald J Trump” in an angry tone. Haven’t asked that question in a while, though.
