I was a Correctional Sergeant

Hey, me too. We are brothers.

...and had actually gotten the day off because of seniority, but then they turned around, and scheduled me to work the midnight shift that night, so I told them to give the day to someone else. I worked 16 hours straight (3-11 and 11-7), and vowed it would be the last Christmas I would ever work for New York State, and it was.

Nothin' wrong with a little double time and a half, eh?

Merry Christmas to you, my walkin' boss brother.

It wasn't overtime. N.Y. State counted the midnight shift as the next day, so they could schedule you for back-to-back shifts (3-11 p.m. and 11 p.m. -7 a.m. and not pay you overtime. I was a vacation relief Sergeant. I'd work other Sergeant's jobs when they were on vacation, or took a sick day, etc. Had weekends off.
