I am thankful.
I have a tendency that if symptoms of almost any disease were listed, I could find them in myself. I noticed this and am on guard against the trend. I learned tonight that I come by it honestly. Oh goodness!
My brother takes my dad shopping on a regular basis. I did it today since ... covid. I get over to Dad’s early to explain why the brother isn’t coming. Dad says he is waiting for a shipment. Then, he realizes that the bro has covid. He thinks he may have it, too. What should he do?
I tell him, let’s get you tested. Dad wants to be tested NOW. I tell him, okay, I need to get you a test kit and I can do it. We’ll know in 15 minutes. Dad thinks that is a splendid idea.
So, I run out and get Dad a kit. I come back and administer the test. Negative. I felt sure that it would be. He really doesn’t have symptoms, yet Dad was reaching back to every sniffle and cough in the last six months.
Now, Dad is blind, almost, and quite deaf. Communication is very challenging. There is nothing wrong with Dad’s mind, but getting through to it takes persistence.
Dad’s package hasn’t come yet. He’s hungry so he, of course, decides that it won’t be delivered so late. He wants to take me out to dinner. He’s a little aggressive with me about the bill. He used to be quick on the draw and pick up the tab. Several times, though, the Hubs and I will “go to the bathroom” to connect with our server, slip him/her our credit card and get in on it before Dad. He tells me very emphatically that he is picking up the check.
Dinner was nice. Dad ordered a “small” marguerita. The small was about 16 ounces. I told him he may not drive home. We get home ~~ never having done his shopping.
His package, and rather expensive, too, was waiting for him at his backdoor.
That entire activity took 3.5 hours. No wonder I have a sore throat.
