I know D3 is supposed to help. Is “D” more or less the same as D3.
Also, is it true that 80 degree temps in the sun helps with D as well.?
I’m not well versed on what is what with the D vitamins.
Temperature has nothing to do with D absorption. Supposeldy 20 minutes in the sun a day is sufficient, with enough skin exposed (face/arms iirc). Depending on melatonin I suppose.
D3 is the usual kind in supplements and also is added to milk; made from irradiated vegetable oil. D3 is not radioactive of course.
D is made on the skin when the sunlight hits the natural skin oil. So bathing or washing off the sun-exposed skin should not be done for a few hours after sun exposure in order for the skin to absorb the Vit D.
D3 is the form that your body can utilize easier. There is more than one type of supplement for Vitamin D. My Dr. told me to always check for the D3.
I don’t think that it matters what the temp is - other than you don’t want to freeze. About 20 minutes in the sun with as much skin exposed as decency allows and your body will tolerate is generally sufficient.
Some people assert that the reduction in the sun during winter contributes to the seasonal aspect of the flu/cold season.
My Dr. told me that in Alaska a lot of people have a “sun” room area - full spectrum lights to make up for the long time of darkness.
