I am pro-death penalty, but I am certainly not pro-what we do now.
If the people and their representatives are so squeamish about it, it should be abolished.
I am pro death penalty as well, but I asked my dad, who was a prosecutor for 40 years, how he felt about the death penalty. And he said that he was not usually in favor of it. He had seen mistakes made, and it was possible in some instances for an innocent man to be convicted.
In relation to white collar crime, he also said this, “Just because you can prosecute someone, doesn’t mean you should.” I think he was referring to the abundance of laws people don’t even know they are breaking because there are SO many of them now. Regulations, etc.
(I think in the last few years we’ve seen a lot of that from the left - prosecutions for being a friend of Trump.)
I do know that the last murderer my dad prosecuted involved a capital murder. The crime was especially heinous and heartless and had good witnesses. Man was eventually executed.
No, the politicians and judges who unjustly commute sentences of murderers should be abolished.
