Disagree with this statement - I only need look to our founding fathers here in the US.

I do consider them political elite -as they were nearly all well-moneyed.

And I do believe that they were a rare instance of ‘elite’ that were looking out for the wellbeing of regular people.

Another example is William Wallace.
