I was reminded of the power and fragility of civilization the other day. I passed a strip-mall church fronted by huge glass doors and windows. Next to the door, to serve as a when-needed door stop, was a ten-pound rock. Think of the implicit faith required to set a ten-pound rock outside your glass doors and windows.
My own neighborhood, near Tucson, is covered with decorative rocks. No midnight brick drop-offs required. We are blessed by goodness.
