Star Anise is delicious. It has a mild licorice flavor, often used for baking. My great grandmother was famous for her coffee cake flavored with it. Crush 4 pods, add a cinnamon stick, about 4 whole cloves and steep in hot water. Add a little honey, splash of whisky... yum.
Goes surprisingly well with chicken, and with steak.
