Reminds me of so much b-s occurring in public ed...
This a.m., husband and I attended the Veterans Day program put on by grandson’s 1st-grade class. The children belted out the patriotic songs with much enthusiasm...💓US US US💓
Saw and spoke with a couple of former colleagues:
1 - There is a deaf pre-K student, who has NO oral lanuage skills, NO knowledge of sign language, and is from a Spanish-speaking family. Instead of this child being identified as Deaf, the system has determined he is an ESL student. ?!?
2 - A local superintendent has decided that elementary students need to focus on academics due to poor test scores AND has eliminated their pittance of a 15-minute recess. His stated reason is that children’s needs for movement/play are met during the curriculum-guided Phys.Ed. classes. Self-directed play apparently has no place in elementary schools. ?!?
I could continue with many more instances of what my late mother referred to as “people with ‘piled higher and deeper’ degrees really do become stupider.”
Anyway, excuse the tirade. And thank you for the pings!!
