Already remarkable for being the world’s second Westinghouse AP1000 reactor to be brought online, Shandong Nuclear Power Co.’s Haiyang nuclear power plant is pioneering two significant aspects of nuclear diversification in China: district heating and desalination.
In 2009, China only had 11 operational nuclear power reactors—three that used domestic technologies, two were Russian technology, four were French technologies, and the remainder are Canadian-designed. It now operates 50 units—a combined 50 GW. The heating project alone could translate to an “annual savings of about 6.62 million tons of standard coal,” it said. The company projects that by 2030, Haiyang and other “clean energy heating methods” could replace all coal-fired boilers on the Jiaodong Peninsula.

At some point they will figure out how to do it, which is why cutting China out of trade with the US is imperative but seems politically impossible.

I worked in a large R&D facility with projects from around the world.
China, Russia, Germany, USA...
Other companies would rent our facility to further develop their projects.
With that bunch, some much had their eyes open?
A huge number of Chinese and they were all nice to me.
A coal to oil project was sold to China for megabucks.
Maybe they saw something they liked?
The Kalifornia idiots are scheduled to shutdown Diablo Canyon Nuclear Station in 2024. IIRC that has a 2 unit, 4 loop Westinghouse Plant. The liberal dumba$$e$ can't supply power on the summer demand peaks as it is but with Diablo Canyon gone, HUGE blackouts are coming.
Speaking of idiots, I worked at VC Summer Station in SC which was building TWO AP-1000 units.
I looked at the news for that place, they stopped construction in 2017 due to financial meltdown but the CEO of the old South Carolina company that I worked for got a 2 year jail sentence and more probation and fines. When I left, I sold ALL of my stock and I now get retirement benefits from Dominion Energy in Virginia. I used to say that the company was broke and couldn't afford the projects but the previous CEO used to think they were going to clean up because of the global warming silliness with coal being shut down (I used to listen to both of those ignorant fools talk in meetings about their visions).
Both of those CEOs had a FINANCIAL BACKGROUND and neither knew their A$$ from a deaerator. It's like letting idiots like Obama, Biden and Newsome have any say so in technical decisions. They don't know enough (even when experts tell them the right answers) to get anything right.
