Lever-action rifles need round nose (or special ammo like Hornady LEVERevolution) to minimize the risk of tube magazine ammo setting off the primer of the round in front of it.

Unless you have a lever gun that is magazine fed, like the Browning BLR. Mine is in .308 Winchester.

The Savage 99’s rotary magazine solved the problem long before it was a problem.
