Out here it seems to be motor vehicles that take the most deer.
I agree with you on the 788 being a great rifle. Fast lock time plus artillery lugs, someone should be making them today. Maybe the new Remington?
I took my first several deer with my Marlin 336C. I still have it.
I have used .308, a fine cartridge to take a Mule Deer and Antelope, but in the woods of New Hampshire, a 30-30 is excellent.
I am building up a couple of AR-15s in .300 Blackout…because its ballistics are a little better than the 30-30.
Reliable and effective. What more could a hunter ask for?
As it turns out, the .350 Legend. If only because regulations forced their hand.
Interesting. Thanks!
Preach it, brother, preach it! SOMEBODY has to tell these poor rubes that "an AR sized platform" is the next best thing to a 'magic wand' - just point it at the target, and it falls over D-R-T! (Don't hardly need ammo, just light it up with that purty red dot! ;>) If they're shootin' ANYTHING else, they're riskin' their lives with DANGEROUS antiques, AND they look like IDIOTS!! They better sell that old defective crap they got ASAP, before the value goes negative! I tell you what, if they wait too long, they'll have to PAY some other idiot to take it!!

You’re welcome. Seems like an OK round. Spawned by the straight-walled cartridge requirements of many States’ hunting regs. I’m sure the original intent was to push hunters toward shorter range pistol cartridges in rifles. Gotta love America’s response....we’ll build a better straight-walled hunting cartridge. And the AR’s modular versatility meant a new upper would have you covered.
Yeah, the AR upper is a breakthrough concept. Of course, at my age (74), I need another cartridge like, well you get the analogy!
The old H&R single shots and the newer Handi-rifles could be sent to the factory and fitted for a lot of different calibers that you’d interchange at home. Firepower was kind of limited, though.
Why?
Because it’s a great round for putting venison on the table.
Thank you for this info.
Will be helpful with my 336.
