LBJ knew that Kennedy was repulsed by the murder of Diem
and wanted to end US.involvement. LBJ needed the war to
continue to distract from his Great Society scam.

But, that’s just how I remember it.

What I know about LBJ was that he was ambitious, a pig and ruthless. In other words, a Democrat, and a bottom of the barrel one at that.

“Kennedy was repulsed by the murder of Diem”

I always laugh when that issue comes up. Kennedy’s man in Saigon instigated Diem’s removal and — what — Kennedy is ‘shocked’ that they killed him? The Diem family was ruthless. What did he expect? Kennedy was a frigging lightweight. You don’t green-light the removal of a dictator and then act all shocked at the methods used by the coup plotters.
