Thanks for the smile with my coffee. Only you could write this, and just HOW did you figure 1.3? Weight, measure, shred and measure? Sounds mighty accurate.
Love hearing about the things you and your mom do together. And she loves Ithaca too.
My mom told me Walmart had ZERO eggs when she went shopping there late last week!
Fortunately, my SIL next door gets 5 eggs a day so we tend to get the excess, a good thing.
+++++++++++++++
We haven’t even had our first frost yet. Yesterday, we closed our lake cabin for the winter (it has no heat): drained water pipes, put antifreeze in toilets, cleaned out the fridge(s), etc. Boat also winterized. It was beautiful there & trees red/gold, bright sun, breezy enough to make small white caps on the lake, but just a little chilly, not cold.
My bro & I were saying how nice it would be to have a 4-seasons house, but there is no way to work that out at the present time. I would love to celebrate Thanksgiving there. I spent 5 months there (summer thru Oct.) about 10 years ago - the lake was different every day, even the storms coming across the water had their own beauty - it was a wonderful, mentally healing, soul refreshing experience (long story). The way time is flying by, it will be “opening” time again before we know it - opening is more work than closing due to cleanup that has to happen (leaves, spider webs, dust, pollen, etc). For now, we can put worries about getting caught out by a sudden freeze away.
Wow Diana! Good for you! (You are so organized! )
It will also freeze here in KS/MO 6B border in the next few days. Moving stuff to the back porch.
My Mom is taking a class through her local Police Department to learn about the Police and what they do every day. This past week she got to shoot a Glock 9mm and she did pretty good for a rookie! She's 84 and she still amazes me every day. ❤ Her instructor said that he could get her to center mass with just a little more practice. 😉 Don't mess with my pistol-packin' Mama! 🙂
Greetings from southern New Hampshire, where the first frosts have come and the garden is pretty much cleared for the winter. Some cover crops have been planted and our garlic goes in this week, albeit late.
Looking at the “Uncle Sam” poster reminded me that we are talking about adding a couple of hens to our pen this next spring. We gave away all of our layers and kept only the ducks, but with Household Six getting into baking, a local source of eggs seems like a good idea.
I am finishing up the plumbing job in the basement where we have our planting and hydroponic activities. We replaced the old sink cabinet, have a new counter top and sink to install, and a lift pump to transfer the water up to the sewer drain line to the septic system. The water, vent and drain plumbing is in place to the cabinet and this morning, hopefully complete the installation and there will be running water down there.
Next, I need to build a raised bed which will have a cattle panel hoop house over it. Lots to do before that white stuff flies!
It’s been a damp week here in Central Missouri. Too muddy in the garden to do anything other than pick.
The fall greens are rocking, carrots are rocking, peppers are hanging on for dear life. We brought in what will likely be the last of the tomatoes for this year.
Need to tear down the tomato cages, move the trellis from the shady side to the sunny side, put garlic in the dirt, and plenty of general fall clean-up.
We also had freezing temps last night and I didn’t see it coming. It was around 50 at sundown, and with passing out candy, I plum forgot to check the forecast for overnight. I still haven’t done my clean up in prep for the coming winter. I’d better get off the computer and get to work. Temps are supposed to be about the same tonight!
Just received my 'Royal Velvet' Amaryllis from Jung's this morning. She's potted up and ready to go!
She sounds a lot like my mom who lived to 84. She was very knowledgeable, patriotic and smart. One of a kind like your mom.
Do you do anything special to cure your squash in the greenhouse or just let them sit?
They just needed a place to be, and I didn’t want to leave them outside in a pile to attract curious PUPPIES or for squirrels to take a bite and then leave!
I’m most sure if Paul Revere rode again, he would not trample across your garden.
Got Aastra minutes opportunity to I tervorw for a job in Texas where ai bought my property.
Found out they wanted me to fly down, test and interview with about 2.5 days notice.
Wish me luck fellow freeper gardeners......this could speed up my move by 1 to 2 years.
Holy smokes that was a lot of misspellings while I was eating breakfast. I got a last minute job interview opportunity....
Thanks for translating.
Best wishes for you.
My grandma and grandpa must have read this sign. They raised chickens and had a little egg farm going there for a while.
I was just wondering...since I’ve been stockpiling in my pantry this year...what do people use for eggs if fresh ones aren’t available? I’ve never thought about it before. I just take that for granted. Is there an egg substitute?
