For the first time since Alec Baldwin accidentally shot one crew member and injured another while filming for Rust, the armourer for the film has spoken out.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins passed away on Thursday, October 21, as a result of the incident. The film’s director, Joel Souza was also injured.
Baldwin had not known the gun had live ammunition in it, however the 63-year-old has been subject to extreme online abuse in the wake of the incident.
The set’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has now spoken out about the tragedy.
Jason Bowles and Robert Gorence, Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyers said safety was her ‘number one priority on set’ and that she wanted to take the opportunity to ‘address some untruths’, Metro reports.
They said:
Ultimately this set would never have been compromised if live ammo were not introduced. Hannah had no idea where the live rounds came from.
Hannah and the prop master gained control over the guns and she never witnesses anyone shoot live rounds with these guns and nor would she permit that. They were locked up every night and at lunch and there’s no way a single one of them was unaccounted for or being shot by crew members.

I'm not a lawyer (and I don't need to stay in Holiday Inns any more) but I'd think that RULE #1 of criminal defense is to NEVER, EVER let your clients say anything that can be used in court against them.
It is often said that to be taken seriously, you should present yourself seriously.
I would have great difficulty taking that seriously.
“Hannah and the prop master gained control over the guns…”
Apparently not.

So the "I didn't know it was loaded" defense may actually work here, for the first time in history.
“Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins passed away on Thursday, October 21...”
Cancer is a horrible disease. We all know people who’ve died that way.
Doesn't say whether she checked the gun before setting it on a tray along with two others for the asst director to choose from.
The gun would probably contain multiple prints. The empty round? 1 or 2 at most.
This is the first we’ve really heard of a prop master. Does the prop master have a name?
I know of this Hanah Gutierrez-Reed, Dave Halls the asst director and Alec Baldwin.
“Her lawyer should have told her to shut up and don’t talk to anyone, especially the media.
Actually, maybe he did and she’s an attention hound..”
************************************************************
Well, I’m sure her attorney advised her to remain quite and SHE IS DOING SO. What you read were words from her legal representative. Maybe they are attention hounds?

So, she was too busy to do her job properly.
Try using that excuse if someone is killed at your shop. Not sure it would fly well.
Isn't it her job and that of the prop master?
Geez, and they let that thing handle guns?
Her statement clarifies another common misstatement by the media:
“... and the second was a stunt man after Hannah informed him his gun was hot with blanks,’ they said.”
So, when Baldwin was told that the gun was “cold” it meant that it was empty, not “hot with blanks.” The media kept telling us that Baldwin thought that it held blanks, but they use the term “hot with blanks”, not “cold.” He was told that it was empty. A simple peak at the revolver chambers would have told him otherwise.
I didn’t catch that. I just breezed over the quote. At any rate, my first thought was that they will try to get someone to fall on the sword for this. Anyone else would be considered for negligent homicide, because he was negligent, and it was a homicide. We will see how good his lawyers are in manipulating the press.
“ Isn’t it her job and that of the prop master?”

Yes but there are questions about whether they had all the needed access (with STUPID COVID-19 restrictions) to do their jobs properly. We’ll see as more VERIFIED information comes out.
Or better still, “shot and killed by Alec Baldwin.” That hews exactly to the truth.
There’s a lot of questions to be answered yet. If she placed three checked and safe weapons on the tray at what point did they become unsafe? Somebody put a live round or rounds in one of the pistols, who was it?
It’s claimed the AD said he opened the hatch and spun the drum of the pistol. The statement alone and his description of what he did has me questioning his statement. It’s not a hatch it’s a latch and it’s not a drum, it’s a cylinder, plus he made no mention to putting it on half cock to free the cylinder to spin.
If true, she just added obstruction of justice to her part in a negligent homicide.
I don't know what the legal term is, but as it looks now she, the AD who gave the "cleared" gun to Baldwin and Baldwin himself are each 100% responsible for this. It cannot be divided into thirds and then rounded down to zero. The only way she and the AD get off is if they gave a verified cleared gun to Baldwin and then he loaded it without their knowledge, and I do not believe that is what happened.
